Digging began today for an authentic World War one era trench at Michigan Tech. The trench is part of a larger project called World War one and the Copper Country. It runs through November to commemorate the centennial of World War I. When it is finished, the trench will provide an interactive walk-through soundscape of sounds from the front as well as soldier letters and poetry.

Sand bags pile up on Michigan Tech’s Campus. It isn’t preparation for a flood, but for a commemoration. The sand bags mark what will soon be an authentic World War one era trench. The trench is part of a larger project called World War one and the Copper Country. The project commemorates Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon County involvement in the First World War.
