In August 1918, Prof. Albert J. Houle wrote a report to the Committee on Education and Special Training in Washington detailing the truing that Michigan College of Mines (as it was called then) was providing to men in “mine running” (tunneling) and mine rescue. In it he details their activities and included over a dozen black and white photos of the activities they were participating in.
